Passing through the city centre this lunchtime I was caught up in human experiment where free hugs were on offer to all comers. The sad thing was there were not many takers which surprised me because there is a bit of an epidemic of loneliness in the world these days and body contact is one the best ways of curing it. Even though this was not a random stranger grabbing people it was a public forum where friendly hugs were on offer and I wondered what was holding people back. Are we becoming too scared of other people, do we fear there is something more behind it, do we just try and avoid strangers no matter what? Seeing as the average hug lasts a mere 3 seconds and could boost your well-being, I say go for it.
